You become a certified CSPO by completing a two-day training course through a Scrum Alliance-approved provider. No exam. No renewal requirement. Certification is awarded the moment you finish.
Costs typically run $349 to $499 depending on the provider and location.
What You'll Learn in CSPO Training
The course covers product ownership fundamentals: backlog management, stakeholder engagement, prioritization, and how to work effectively with development teams. You'll work through real scenarios, not just theory.
Key requirements:
- Full attendance is mandatory for certification
- No written exam or assessment
- Certification doesn't expire (though staying current is smart)
Why No Exam?
Unlike PSM I or PSM II certifications, the CSPO relies on course completion and participation as proof of competency. The two-day format is intensive enough that Scrum Alliance treats attendance as the certification gate. If you're comparing this to other Scrum certifications, the PSM I does require an 80-question exam, while CSPO does not.
Keeping Your Skills Current Without Renewal
While you don't have to renew, the field moves. You can earn Scrum Education Units (SEUs) by taking additional courses, attending conferences, or participating in community events. This keeps your credential credible and your practice sharp.
ThinkLouder has trained over 55,000 practitioners since 2001. Our CSPO courses are led by Certified Scrum Trainers (CST) who bring real product ownership experience into the classroom, not just slides.
